The Transformers comic by Marvel was the first and arguably the best known Transformers comic. Although it was originally intended to be a 4-issue limited series, it expanded into an ongoing series, which ran for 80 issues before being cancelled. The final cover read "80 in a 4 issue limited series". Issues #1–56 were written by Bob Budiansky, with Marvel UK writer Simon Furman taking over for the remainder of the comic. The comic did not attempt to follow the show and some elements and characters were completely absent. Most notably was the absence of characters from season 3 like Ultra Magnus, Springer, Arcee, Metroplex and the Quintessons (with the exception of a stand alone issue which adapted "The Big Broadcast of 2006"). The comic started much the same as the show; a crew crash landing the Ark on Earth in the distant past. They are befriended by Buster Witwicky. His brother Spike eventually joins the cause as Autobot leader when he became the head of commander Fortress Maximus. There occurs a considerable amount of fractioning and in-fighting in both the Autobots and Decepticons. However the series climax occurs when both sides, Autobots and Decepticons, form an uneasy peace to defend Cybertron from Unicron. Simon Furman himself says the final issues of the Transformers are his favorite.

A long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron, a war was being waged between the noble Autobots (led by the wise Optimus Prime) and the devious Decepticons (commanded by the dreaded Megatron) for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possessed it. The Autobots managed to smuggle the Allspark off the planet, but Megatron blasted off in search of it. He eventually tracked it to the planet of Earth (circa 1850), but his reckless desire for power sent him right into the Arctic Ocean, and the sheer cold forced him into a paralyzed state. His body was later found by Captain Archibald Witwicky, and before going into a comatose state Megatron used the last of his energy to engrave a map, showing the location of the Allspark, into the Captain's glasses, and send a transmission to Cybertron. He is then carted away by the Captain's ship. A century later, Sam Witwicky, nicknamed Spike by his friends, buys his first car. To his shock, he discovers it to be Bumblebee, an Autobot in disguise who is to protect Spike, as he bears the Captain's glasses and the map carved on them. But Bumblebee is not the only Transformer to have arrived on Earth - in the desert of Qatar, the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base, causing the Pentagon to send their special Sector Seven agents to capture all "specimens of this alien race," and Spike and his girlfriend Mikaela find themselves in the middle of a grand battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, stretching from Hoover Dam all the way to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, within the depths of the Pentagon, the cryogenically stored form of Megatron awakens... Written by Sivaji IMDBoss

High-school student Sam Witwicky buys his first car, who is actually the Autobot Bumblebee. Bumblebee defends Sam and his girlfriend Mikaela Banes from the Decepticon Barricade, before the other Autobots arrive on Earth. They are searching for the Allspark, and the war on Earth heats up as the Decepticons attack a United States military base in Qatar. Sam and Mikaela are taken by the top-secret agency Sector 7 to help stop the Decepticons, but when they learn the agency also intends to destroy the Autobots, they formulate their own plan to save the world. I have already seen it. It has opened here is Australia several days ago. I am NOT a transformers fan and only knew some names because I knew kids who played with the dolls. I am NOT into the comic either.

I can tell you now... YOU DO NOT NEED to know any names. EVERYTHING you need to know is explained in the movie.

But DO go and see it. It is an AWESOME movie. (It takes a lot in a movie to impress me - so that's a lot for me to say it is an awesome movie. Acting is not the best you'll ever see But over all - it's VERY VERY well done)

well, transformers is basically about two groups of opposing robots in a war againts each other. one good, the other bad. they live in a planet called cybertron and apparently, their planet is on the verge of dying because of the said war. their way of actually saving their planet is to search for a cube or something (i'm not entirely sure where the cubes come from) which they can use to revive their planet or take over another planet and make it their own. a cube is detected to be on earth and so they come here to get it and hence the story... you should watch the movie, i've already seen it and it was really really great

I only remember the song. Transformers more than meets the eye. Transformers robots in disguise.

I think it's fantastic that he's making you learn about them. Be geeky with your boyfriend. It's important to him, so it should be important to you. Otherwise how do you expect him to respect you when you think it's important.
