My friend invited me to go house sit his aunt's house, and I want to know if there's anything fun to do. Theme parks, museums, anything.

SLO is a small college town (California Polytechnic State University, aka Cal Poly, aka Poly) half way between L.A. and San Francisco. I went to school there, so I had a blast, but as far as theme parks and museums and the like, the simple answer is no.

It's a really nice little town in the middle of nowhere (4 hr drive to LA or SF) and it SLOws way down in the summer time, due to the student population moving away.

It has no theme parks or museums to speak of (some local history stuff, plus there's a big art scene so there are a lot of galleries and shows in town).

The biggest attractions I can think of are:

Hearst Castle in San Simeon, a 45 min drive up the coast.

The Calif. Mid State Fair in Paso Robles (15 mins up 101) at the end of July for 2 weeks every year. They usually manage to get really good bands... I've seen some good concerts there.

There's a great farmers market downtown once a week- usually live music.

All kinds of winery events in Templeton (20 mins up 101), between Paso and Atascadero. It's like a *mini* Napa Valley and there's always something going on there- if you're into wine.

There are some nice beaches, Pismo (south) is the biggest, but it's surrounded by many others. Morrow Bay is north and has a beach, but it's usually freezing (fogged in). Avila is a small beach and it's the closest to SLO itself.

Lots of good bars and restaurants.

Hope that helps ya!

sorry..no amusement parks within probably 200 mile radius of SLO. It is a quiet college town. beaches within about 10 - 15 mile drive down in Pismo Beach. There are the sand dunes that you can go ATV driving.

Hearst Castle is about an hours drive north up highway 1 and is the closest museum that I can think of. It is very cool funky place.

Otherwise you just have shopping, laid back atmosphere.

The population of the twon with the college students is probably 70,000 during the school year and half that in the summer.

I also went to school there, so to me it is just a cool laid back town for relaxing.

That's about it.
