I can't say what music has had the most impact of the young today, I hope it isn't rap, etc. Although the lyrics can be expressive and sometimes poetical, for me it lacks musicality. Can you have a rap instrumental? It is far easier to see the influences in retrospect.
Blues, rock, folk, bluebeat and ska, is the music I grew up with; plus a bit of jazz; ravi shankar and lots of church choral music.
Basically I'm still am old hippy and I'll try anything once.

I am not sure what style had the most influence, as I am hearing a lot of remixes of older music from several generations. What influenced me was everything from the Beatles to Maroon 5!

most ppl now listen to pop and rap. but, my mom was a punk rock girl when she was young so i grew up w/ a lot of punk music. so, now instead of listening to fall out boy or something stupid like that (no offense to the ppl that like it) but, i listen to stuff like Rancid, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Dropkick Murphys, Against Me!....wutever. but, i have a wide variety of music that i listen to. Violent Femmes, Bob Dylan, Gogol Bordello, Bright Eyes, The Good Life, The Blood Brothers, Primus, all that good stuff. :)

Nirvana was the most influential band to ever exist. Heavy rock, definitly.

heavy rock and rock n' roll.

I love stuff that is even before my time (I'm 27), like Led Zepplin, Janis Hoplin, Jimi Hendrix.

I also like heavier rock bands from now: like Mushroomhead (they are my current favorite) and Disturbed, Deftones, ect.

I have to listen to music daily: especially while driving, it calms me.
