Absolutely! This is MY country, too! And... I want it back! Just now, we must focus on elections, and having a congress which is not willing to allow the president, or his buddies, to run away with our Rights! This has been a very rude awakening for America, in my opinion. I have listened, and watched, and read as much as possible about what is going on, politically. I can only conclude that American Democracy is\has been, at risk and, WE citizens must begin to bond together for the 'greater good,' not simply what's good for a few self-serving, greedy, corrupt individuals... but, for ALL Americans! Alas, we even have those interjecting their spiel about other Americas - which is well and good, however, timing is everything... This is definitely NOT the time to be disputing which country we are writing about. This particular forum is often confused over whether we are the United States of America, the United States of Mexico, or United States of Canada - and so on... with all the talk of combining countries, (simplified version) into one unified America - it makes me cringe... it also has been made abundantly clear, ours is not an easy country to keep safe from such scourge, which attempts to deprive us of a strong balance of real democratic values. Because we have a democracy, and because we believe in the rights of individuals, we tend to be more vulnerable to those 'inside' America, who would change our country from one striving towards full and complete equality of its citizens, to one in which there are only absolutes. As in; absolute power and control of the citizens by whatever methods may be beneficial to those in power - as long as WE the PEOPLE continue to remember they work for US, and not the other way around, we will continue to have an America of Justice and Laws. It is a time, I believe, when our country is being tested and tried unlike ever before, with all the mixed-bag of ideologies, principles, wars, threats of war, and FEAR of the unknown events before us. Fear is becoming our worst enemy - the tactics of fear are being used against WE the PEOPLE in order to erode our entire democratic way of life. If, each one of us does not take a stand, and is not willing to fight the good fight, then we cannot or, should not complain, when and if, the soldiers come marching in to take us away! Curfews being established in cities and neighborhoods, in my opinion, is another method of controlling the citizens, which on one hand; protects us from those who would do harm to the average citizen - on the other hand, it prevents us from being free to do what we enjoy, and there must be a balance.
I realize this is not the only avenue for dissent, or speaking up, and is only a means to share our views. I realize we all need to be involved because our very "Rights" are threatened, if we lay idly by watching and waiting for someone else to do it for us. This forum is a good start, though. Thanks for the question.

Hell yes. This is a country of the people, by the people, and for the people and that's the way it always ought to be. I would defend America to the death if need be. Why do you think the founding fathers added the right to bear arms and form a militia to the Constitution? (2nd Amendment.) They were wise in doing so, for they knew one day there may be a time when this nation's government goes rouge and tries to supersede the authority of the people. I would join up and bare arms in the revolution, I would not go down without a fight to the bitter end!
So sayeth the liberal.

Absolutely. That's what separates us from other countries. We have never been the kind of people to "fold in" when being oppressed. The Revolutionary War. Does that ring a bell? A lot of people complain that we're being oppressed and exploited still, and to some degree I'll accept that as true. Racism still exists. We pretty much still have economic segregation and a modern type of caste system...there's no denying that. Other than that, our basic rights as Americans have remained mostly untouched. They've tried a few times to mess with them, but....failed for the most part. But if they just pulled the legal rug out from under us, and installed a tyranny?? You better BELIEVE I'd be locking and loading, and taking aim.

well no president could do that, for these reasons they would have the judicial branch and legislative branch in their way and regardless of their rank in the military the military swear to up hold and defend the constitution therefore said president would be violating the constitution. that being said , to answer your question if they were to by pass all that well i'd really like to tell you but this being the net and with the patriot act i'll just give you one of these ;)

As a socialist I have to say it would depend on the struggle and if I belived he had the solution. In certain political climates I believe it could be justified under the right circumstances.

in some ways yes...i don't think the president should be the only public office to have term limits...we should be allowed to re-elect as long as the people wants that person...or we should put term limits on all politicians...right now he seems like the only one who has his eye on the ball about dealing with terrorists...despite all the "bumper sticker" claims the Dem's throw at him...but lets wait until 2008 to see our options before then..
