A couple of hours ago, a loud, high-pitched noise (sounds almost like the ringing of a tuning fork) started up and has been constant since then. I tracked it to what seemed to be the two air vents in the master bedroom, but when I shut the power off completely (circuit breaker), the noise stopped all together. When I walked outside, the noise seems to be coming from underneath the house, which is a crawlspace foundation. Any ideas as to what this could be? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like either an electrical problem or I would say a natural gas leak but if it stopped when you turned power off then it should be that...It does make a loud hissing noise almost like a teapot when its leaking pretty good. You need to have someone take a look.

You could have a fan in a vent or a fan in a kitchen stove with a circulating heat fan. What kind of oven do you have? it may be vented under the house.
