I think I need to change mine. Is it hard to do in a liberty?
There wasn't a gasket with the one I bought from Napa, should there have been?

Thanks!

It isn't on the upper radiator hose

IT IS NOT ON THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE.

I have changed thermostats on other cars.
I'm assuming this one is on the lower hose.
I just want to know if it is tough to change and where it is located on the Liberty

Here's some directions I found hope it helps yes you should have received a gasket but you may have to buy it seperate or use silicone.

Thermostats almost always reside in a housing at the engine side end of the upper radiator hose. Drain coolant first, then loosen radiator hose to access thermostat housing. If you can't find the housing, consult your vehicle service manual for location.

Loosen the bolts that hold down the thermostat housing. Remove the housing to reveal the thermostat.

Note the location and orientation of thermostat relative to the engine. Remove thermostat.

Use a scraper to remove old gasket material from all mounting surfaces.

Place new gasket on housing. Use a small amount of grease or adhesive to hold it in place during reassembly.

Make sure new thermostat is oriented properly and reinstall the housing.

Reconnect all hoses. Close radiator petcock. Refill cooling system with recommended 50/50 blend of water and coolant. Run engine and heater to purge air from cooling system. Recheck the coolant level once engine is cool.

Jeep Liberty Thermostat

Usually, there is a gasket already on the part.
(see here: http://www.autozone.com/R,APP83505/vehicleId,2673502/initialAction,partProductDetail/store,5766/partType,00047/shopping/partProductDetail.htm )
It should be the rubber seal around the outside rim of the thermostat. If there isn't one, get one.

The thermostat is usually located on the upper radiator hose, right where the hose meets the engine. Remove the hose and at the point where it meets the engine, you should see your old thermostat.

Hope this helps!

Some are clipped to the inside of the radiator between the radiator and the fan. Not sure if its that way on a Liberty, but I have seen them there before.

Which engine are you talking about? That is one of those items you should always include when posting a question here?
