I've liked football for a long time but I never thought I could play on a team. I only have 2 years of school left. Do think I could do it? (Or should do it)

Here is the BEST POSSIBLE ANSWER; YES! When I played ball over the nine years I played there were only three teams with girls on them and every single one of the teams was competitive. On top of that there is a Women's Football league in the USA as well, it is not very well known but my sister is thinking of trying out. High School is all about growing, and learning what you are good at in life. If you want to play football know these few things:
1) you will be sore, hurt, bruised, and possibly even broken
2) you have to give all of your effort all of the time whether you are at practice or in a game
3) be in shape before the summer is over or the fall will be extremely difficult
4) do not be afraid to hit anyone, the bigger they are the harder they fall
5) being that you only have 2years of school left, that means you have a lot to learn in a little time, most people that are Jr's have been playing for 2-5 years, so they will know more than you.
Lastly, talk to the coach as soon as possible, see if they can give you a play book and see about summer team workouts, sign-ups, and what position he thinks you could play.

GOOD LUCK,

I played football in high school. I was the only girl on the team and I took a lot of **** from the guys until I proved myself. But even then, there were still a couple of jerks who thought I shouldn't be playing even though I was just as good and better then some of the male players.

Talk to your coaches and gym teachers about starting a ladies football clinic so girls can learn about it and get a chance to play and who knows maybe start a team and compete against other schools. I wish I had thought about that when I was in high school.

I wasn't built for a lot of the other sports offered for females so I did field events, wresting and football.

There are women's professional football league's. There are actual two out there right now. Womensprofootball.com and wfleague.com. They have teams all over the country and these girls can play! There are some great athletes in those leagues. So if you are not sure of playing in high school you can hold out and play in these leagues in a couple of years. Good luck! I wish they had these leagues when I was younger, because I would have loved to have played football.

Why not? Other Nick Mangold's sister (and that was high school, she was like a back-up o-lineman or something... I just remember reading an article about it on yahoo....), I've never really heard of a girl playing a posistion other than kicker, and I'm trying to remember the team, but there was a college that used a girl to kick an extra point in a game, and there might have been other instances that I am not recalling... So it's not like it hasn't happened, and I see no reason why you shouldn't...

As long as you can take the punishment then I see no problem with it. As a note of interest there is a women's professional football team here in Southern Louisiana called The Blaze. Who knows in that it may catch on. They obtain most of their recruits from college softball teams and yes, the quarterback can flat throw the ball. I was impress.

Go for it! I think there are better girls out there than guys that play football.

I would not recommend a girl playing football in high school.

sure...

Most girls you hear about who play football are place kickers.
Last year, ESPN.com had an article about the sister of Jets center Nick Mangold. In the article, it mentioned that she was a lineman. So, it can be done.

Go for it...
get the experience, then find a semi-pro team to play for after high school.
The Dallas Rage was a great ladies team.
