Because we're scared of what we don't know. The unknown realm of what happens after death, life forms on other planets, and of course, the near future. We can't stand it. That's a main reson why we need a leader, so that they can tell us what will happen and reassure us.

This ability allows us to plan ahead, and it is what we are strong at, over all the other animals on the planet. We are able to simulate events in our mind along with imagination, creating hypothesis that lead to great discoveries. So without this ability, as cavemen, they won't be able to set traps and hunt in groups, and as modern humans, our technology would just come to a stop. Without the ability to see beyond we would just be like average animals around us.

By "beyond" I presume you mean the future. Or do you mean the ability to see beyond what your eyes can see?

We can develop the ability to see beyond what the eyes can see easily thanks to scientific inventions and gadgets .
But if it is future that needs to be seen we donot have the ability.

The epiphany of any given situation is always a plus because if we as people were to only see the things right in front of us. That could actually mean the difference between love and loss because most people don't see the things that matter the most in there life especially when it is right in front of them like a sore thumb.
As the saying goes, "You don't know what you have until you lose it," very well with your question.

To see the truth, or any semblance of it, for we never really see the whole truth, we need to see beyond our own over-sized egos.

Simply because there must be something for us to see beyond. Nature does nothing in vain...why do we need imagination?

Good luck!
