why do we need the ability to see beyond?

Because we're scared of what we don't know. The unknown realm of what happens after death, life forms on other planets, and of course, the near future. We can't stand it. That's a main reson why we need a leader, so that they can tell us what will happen and reassure us.

Without the ability to see beyond we would just be like average animals around us.
