I'm writing a paper on the work ethics, preparation, etc. of Thomas Jefferson and I am at a total brain block. I know his biography/achievements, but how did his experiences help him to write the Dec. of Indep.? Any idea's on this would be helpful; even if it is a small idea, once I can get rolling, I'm good!

I positively could not have said it better than TG.
I also do not know if it is accurate since he has not given a source of proof for his answer.

Jefferson was a philosopher as well as an inventor and scientist. The Declaration of Independence was based on Jefferson's studies of the English philosopher, John Locke. It was an outgrowth of the Enlightenment. Jefferson had some help with the Declaration. Ben Franklin contributed ideas as did James Madison. Jefferson wrote several drafts that were revised and rewritten over the course of several days. He was very well-educated and was adept at putting his thoughts and those of others in a concise manner. He had already written several scientific treatises and his extensive reading influenced his style as well as his point of view.

Jefferson was probably the best-read man in the colonies. His library later became the nucleus of the Library of Congress. He was very familiar with the classics of Greek and Roman thought, and well-versed in the writers of the Enlightenment in France and Britain. Not only had he studied the great thinkers, but also the great writers and orators. And he had many deep discussions on these issues with the other leading thinkers of his time. So, while he had an undeniable gift for words, it was informed by his extensive education.
