ok my GF is a Frog nut, so i find my self with 5 frogs and a toad in a fish tank in my room. i have build a stand in the tank that is covered in moss and there is about 6 inches of water in the tank. the problem seems to be that the Toad is always on land therefor he seems to get most of the bugs that go in. the frogs seem to spend most of their time in the water so im not sure that they are getting enough to eat. anyone have any ideas on how to encourage them to spend some more time on land?

Try adding lots of rock "caves" and driftwood they can hide beneath and soft, moist substrate they can dig down into. Frogs need to keep their skin moist, so there's really no way you can make them stay on land all the time. If you have different species of frogs, you may want to think about separating them, because larger ones have no problem eating small ones they can fit in their mouths.

Have you tried putting some feeder guppies or feeder goldfish in the water? The frogs may be more willing to eat in the water, than to compete for food on land with the toads...

In the long run, though, it will probably be best to house the toad seperately or with other toads, and let the frog tank be a "frogs-only" zone.

Hope this helps - good luck!

I`m a frog nut too, they are cute little fellas! Im assuming your tank is at least 10 gallons to comfortable house all those frogs? 5 frogs need a lot of room. As for the toad, they have extreme appetites and I would recommend you house him separately in a different tank. Toads will eat just about anything that moves so he may be taking the frogs food.
