Does snapping a pop-it hurt or not?

I've seen this on boxes of snappers or pop-its on the popular "toys". It advertises that you can snap it, but no one I know has ever tried. I worry since the things do explode (well sorta...).

Not at all. It's like snapping your fingers with a crumbled piece of paper between your fingers.
