That's a great question! I think it's in our natures to be different, contingent on context. So, at work we're one way, at school, another, and so on. On-line is different in a way, because the physicality of the person is not an issue; thus, age, ethnicity, gender, and so on are all in the minds of the people involved. In Y!Answers, people use avatars, presumably to give some idea of how they look, but we all see ourselves differently from how others see us, so those images are likely inaccurate. Or people use photographs, but you can never be sure that's them, now. People use pop culture images to make statements about their personalities, and so on. Some people ask questions using a lot of caps and lots of question marks...people become somewhat "real" to us in that we have interpreted something based on the words and images they project. There are a lot of cues in the cyber-world, but they're more interpretive and imaginary than physical interaction. Do people behave differently in here than out there? I think we do, but we have to because we're relying on everything BUT our bodies. It's words on a screen--it's all interpretation--webcams aside, of course.

Online: I am a verbal warrior. A champion of the keyboard, intelligent, fast-typing, witty, creative and dynamic. People flood any chatroom when they find out I am there just to be around me and feed off the energy I give off.

In Real Life: I'm so shy I can barely speak to people, never make eye contact, prone to panic attacks, and get dizzy in crowds.

Love,
Snag

I'm the same but not as much of a huge social person, of course others would have a different opinion.

Online, I'm more talkative. Offline in the real I am way more shy, mainly because in the real world, people see that I'm just this chubby old fart, that I'm just this guy really....and I just don't feel safe out there in the world, there are a lot of mean people out there.

And in reality, you can't *block* people or report them for abuse or take other actions to get them out of your face. ^_^

So yeah, you could say I feel more confident and powerful in my life online. Partly because others can't see how fugly I am here and judge me on the basis of appearance, but partly because things are a *little* more equal and fair here online too.

Hope this helps. ^_^ Thanks for your time!

Yes I'm slightly different. Simply because I have time to type things out and read them over before I commit to saying them. It makes my sense of humor better, my arguments more intelligent.

I'm more opinionated online. I used to be a really shy person and I still haven't completely grown out of my shyness. Being online gives me the chance to break free.

I'm not.

Same guy either way. I don't create a different personality or identity on-line.

Online..lets seee

Online it is easier for me to hide my emotions because I no one can hear or see me until I type a reaction. so it is easier to be fake.

Online It is easy to share things you are ashamed or embarrassed by.

ONline I am more guarded because people tend to copy and paste things and it is extremely easy for things you say to get around.

Online I am more flirtatious because idk i guess it is easier to say things when in person If i like someone i am often stumbling over my words.
