Yes, I put some pretty good stuff out when we redecorated to prepare for my daughter. My neighbors take alot of our stuff, so now I just ask them first. One guy drives around and bangs apart all old A/C units for the freon. Things don't stay out for very long around here. In fact, on trash night, there's way more slow moving traffic-- people checking out your junk.

I once had a guy knock on my door and ask my where a missing part of a ceiling fan was and then get mad when I didn't have it. "What good is it to me, then?" he said.

When I was in college, I furnished my apartment this way. At graduation time, we'd all hunt trash on the student populated streets. They'd throw out new radios, microwaves...stuff they couldn't bring home. So, yes, I did it and now people do it to me. One person scored with a boomerang coffee table that opened up in to a bar recently from my trash. He tried to offer me money. I had to convince him that I was happy he was taking it and not the trashman.

That is how I got your old floral print Victorian style bright red and green love seat. It matches my wall paper perfectly. I found your wallet between the cushions. It has been a godsend for whenever I get pulled over by the police. Have you noticed a change in your DMV record? That driving 120 in a 35 zone was bogus. Don't pay it. I was barely going over a 110. I am sure it happens a lot, and hey, if someone can use it, my hats off to them. At least whatever I threw out will get a second life. Better than the landfill.

Our garbage is picked up on tuesday. If something is usable but we want to get rid of it, I'll put it on the street on wednesday without fear of it sitting in my front yard for a week until the truck runs again. We have put stuff out there that did not last 2 hours before it was picked up. I have gotten to the point where I may hold something a day past the garbage pickup thinking somebody may want this, I'll give them 6 days to find and claim it!

Yeah, it's kind of a culture here in Brisbane. We have 'curbside' days where you can put out stuff and the council collects it. Heaps of people just drive around collecting things....one man's trash is another's treasure!

Nope, but when I lived in Virginia there was a lot of furniture out on the egde of the streets. Some nights when I was out late, you'd catch people doing the nasty on them.

Hell yes & I've also picked up a great steel door for my shed that way.
We have a community clean-up twice a year here & we all place anything that can be recycled (by other people) in a seperate pile.

You can't put furniture out where I live. You have to call and have it picked up. I wish I could.

No. If you tried that where I live, someone would probably fall asleep in your ratty old recliner and still be there when you left for work in the morning.

My grandpa does that all the time.
Then he will try to sell the stuff he gets from the trash in his garage sale.
