I don't know. Personally I would hope not, but I am only one vote of millions. . .
According to some polls I read today, most Americans have graded the Democratic Congress with a lower approval rating than the president's. But within that same poll, over 54% feel that it was better to put the Democrats in STILL as opposed to vote the Republicans in. So there are some mixed messages.
I think (from what I have been seeing and hearing) that a Democrat will win the Presidental race. Why? Because GW has put a bad taste into the people's mouths when it comes to Republicans. I think the Republicans are going to have to do twice the fighting to get half the votes this time around.
Again, this is just my little opinion. And I tried to remain as objective as possible. But I think that whomever gets into the White House, they are going to listen to the people - for the major concensus on all sides of the political fence is that the voters have lost confidence in the government - and it is now the public vs. the government. No government wants to have that be the situation - especially when from a government "for the people by the people".

There's a whole lot of time between now and the election. I'd say that if it took place today, no. Folks are so damned sick of Bush and his buddies and scandal after scandal that they'd vote for a democrat just to see something different.
People who compare congress approval ratings with presidential ratings aren't terribly smart. First off, congress ALWAYS has a low rating. A lot of die-hard right-wingers are just jumping on the rating now because they have nothing else to be happy about. Fact #2: The congress is something like 48% republican. So to all the republicans who crow about congress' low approval rating... guess what: your folks are getting that rating too. So forget about congress' rating... it doesn't mean much.
I think the republicans have a chance of winning, yes. A lot of things could happen between now and the election. Osama bin Laden could be captured (unlikely, but possible). Bush could invade Iran or Syria. There are lots of events which could influence the election. Dirt could come out on many of the frontrunners - Hillary, Rudy, whoever. Not sure if you remember but in 1992, BIll Clinton came out of absolutely nowhere to win the nomination and election. I think he was running sixth or something. So just about anything's possible. That's one reason so many folks here have a hard-on for Fred Thompson, even though they don't know jack about him other than that he was on TV; he's a new face in an old game.

If Rudy Giuliani can be twice voted Mayor of the largest metropolitan area & also the most liberal in the United States; then i would have to say the answer is yes. I think Giuliani can win the hearts & minds of most democratic voters than can say, Fred Thompson; if he chooses to run. Unfortunately Rudy's a tougher sell for the Republicans. Will he be nominated at the convention? I think he should, but i don't think they will.
Speaking of Fred. If he does enter the race and by some miracle is nominated; he's MUST cater to the Independent vote for any chance of winning the Presidency. Any like minded liberal wouldn't vote for that man even if he were Democrat.

Let's just say it is going to be an uphill battle, but it is definitely a possibility.
I, personally, don't understand why so many Republicans like Thompson. He was a lobbyist for a lot of years before he was an actor and senator. IMO, lobbyists have too many corporations they are beholden to to be seriously considered as a good candidate. Read the Wikipedia article about him at the link below. Scary.

We do if we get behind a candidate who has a solution to Iraq better than split and run or more of the same. It is time to admit that our work in Iraq is done and negotiate with countries in the area to move. Or we can still send enough troops to do the job.

Only if they nominate Ron Paul. I believe a lot of Independents will vote for Paul or another likeable reformist kind of politician. None of the other canidate's in the Republican race will get the Independent vote and if he doesn't get the nomination the Democrats will win because only the core Republicans will support that party.
