Up until he signed with the Blues, I would have disagreed with you about Kariya being more interested in money than a championship until I turned blue in the face. The Blues have absolutely no chance of winning a Stanley Cup. His $6M per season contract limits his trade options as well. I disagree with your opinion of him signing with Nashville, they were as legitimate as any other club at winning it all this past year but given his decision on this, I am questioning myself.

I was with you up until the Nashville comments. That team was on the verge of breaking through before they hit the self-destruct button this year. In any case, of course money is a big reason he signed there. It is a big reason to sign ANYWHERE. The truth is that with the salary caps, winning the Cup is going to be a much smaller factor in picking a team. The fact is that you simply cannot predict who will win this far ahead of time. Who would have guessed Tampa and Carolina before this year? Anaheim was less of a surprise, but look at the Sabres. They were a favorite, and now they've lost two big stars. No one will be picking them next year. Things happen so fast, and some teams that look good can't afford to take on a new salary. You have to go where you will be happy, or where the big bucks are. The new CBA basically ensures that there are no other real motivations in free agency. Everyone is in it for the money.

I think it's a perfect fit. Kariya is not a savior like everyone thinks. I agree though, he obviously doesn't want his name on the cup. I don't think the Blues could take it all at the semi pro level much less the NHL. Money talks - obviously Kariya needs more.

he stated stability in nashville as a main reason for not signing.. but the main reason for going to the blues is the fact his brother is playing for their farm club and hopes to work up to the nhl... if he wants to win a cup in st. loius then they are gonna have to make some enormous signings.. realistically dont see them even making the playoffs..no word yet on how much $ for 3 years yet, but its gotta be big.. all nashville is really losing is our #2 face of the preds since vokoun has left as well.. preds need someone like lang from the wings and one really good winger to be just as good (if not better) than the last 2 seasons.. hate to see pk gone but we have greater issues to tend to.. but for gods sake leipold-- SIGN SOMEONE THATS A FORCE... as we are now-- our farm club the admirals could beat us...

WELL PUT MR. TACO and PUCKDAT and pretty much everyone!!!!

haha apparently nobody wants to play for nashville. and what will happen with kariya is he will be on fire with the blues just like guerin, keith and weight were last year and then get traded to a contender and do jack for them ala guerin for the sharks. I was really expecting more from guerin till erhoff plastered him with a shot to the face either way he wasnt doing shiet

What motivates him is his business. He's not the answer for St. Louis though. I don't think he did that much in Nashville.

Extremely lame. It's obvious money guides his career. Hang up the skates Paul.

This surprised the hell out of me too! I wanted the sucka to come back to Anaheim play along side Andy mac and teemu! Damn it, oh well, looks like both teemu and Scott are going to definitely retire.
