Well, think they are pretty bad. Worst thing that happened was the "no fault" divorce, which actually encourages divorce and you don't have to have a reason. And you shouldn't make it easy to get a divorce.

Then the whole system is based upon conflict so lawyers in custody cases, and others associated with it can make more money, etc.

The whole system needs to be overhauled, but don't see it happening, because the "divorce" business is a multimillion dollar business.

No Indian divorce laws & practices is worse then most of the western countries. In India a simple contested divorce can take any time between 3 to 5 years & even more & even divorce by mutual consent can take 6 to 8 months minimum. The ground of irrevertably broken marriage is not an independent ground for divorce & it has to be coupled with grounds such as desertion of more then two years or cruelty to cover & hold it for granting divorce to a person in a contested divorce. The worst part of divorce in India is that the criminal provisions with regards to acts of cruelty, domestic violence, adultery & dowry adds to the miseries of the spouses in otherwise simple issue regarding divorce. Issues such as child custody & maintenance/alimony can even take years to decide that further aggravates the sufferings for the spouses. All in all these matter relating to divorce & family affairs although taken up in the family courts are too much time consuming & economically very expensive in India

I believe that our system, while flawed, is probably the best in the world when it comes to parity between the haves and the have nots. Some systems, notably in the Middle East are very prejudiced against women, and court systems in Asia tend to be really archaic.

No, I think they're pretty good. My mom just got divorced with no hassle last month. Now, she feels pretty liberated and free. Yet I don't think I would agree with that dumb law about child support. They should be more strict upon that, because my deadbeat father never pays it.
