Any model is ok. I was just wondering of people's positive and/or negative experiences with the brand.

I had(still have) an Acer laptop. The one I got wasn't bad. But it wasn't as robust as it should have been. A couple of things broke down on me, and it is falling apart now. Then again, laptop lifetimes, especially the way I ridiculously stressed mine, aren't very good. So maybe I should be impressed. It's still usable anyway.

I think the real surprise for me was the customer service. I'm not sure how this is possible, but I got dream-like service. No waiting times on technical support. Yes, it was native English speakers who picked up. And they were very open to repairs. One time, they even shipped the part to me and let me fix it myself (without voiding the warranty). That's amazing.

Laptops really need a warranty, simply because you should expect them to break down. For various reasons ( such as the poor cooling intrinsically, the stress on the components, etc.), they have poor lifetimes and a warranty/tech support is an important point.

I don't know if Acer still has that kind of support quality. I would be surprised if they did. It was a few years back. I probably would go for a Lenovo now. Expensive, but I want the reliability and robustness. But if you find confirmation that Acer still keep that crazy good level of tech support (who actually know what they are doing), do consider them.

EDIT:
Elton's right on the LCD. Mine's a goner. (Connect to an external screen now).

I know all acer Displays have problems. I used an Acer desktop a few years ago and later on the screen concked out. This same thing happens to all their laptops and monitors. Go with Dell or HP.

I think they're great. I use and have been using this one for 2 years now and it's still running well. You might have a problem with the disk space depending on the type of model you get. I only have 17gb. If you're a games person, you might have a problem since sometimes the monitor tends to go blank when playing, then you have to restart the computer.

It really depends on how well you take care of it, mines hasn't broken. But my brothers has for unknown reasons.

It's a lower tier model. For VALUE, get Dell, hp, Compaq, Toshiba, Lenovo. If price is no object, XPS, Falcoln, Voodoo and Alienware. There will be a price war later this month. If you can wait, you'll save

I have a friend who buys and sells laptops and he said it's not a good brand. He said the LCD gives off easily.

Mine is an HP Compaq Presario, I had it for 2 years and never had it repaired.

I took a chance on one cause I got an awesome deal on it and have not been dissapointed. Only complaint is that there support website isn't the greatest for downloading drivers.

The ones I have worked on are of cheap materials.

There is a reason that they are cheaper than other models.
