"Are you 'On the Fence', politically?"
Something got stuck up THERE , politically, so maybe . ;D
ps Hi granmma_arlene .Just noticed it was you, not the usual axe-grinders . Get more serious about the important stuff , in the gardening section. ;D Was refering to WHY people are often on the fence - what they do to us , once in office. To be more direct , I'm almost always "on the fence " , so end up with a lot of write-in votes .

I am not on the fence, nor am I confused, and I have never voted for the party platform. I know exactly what my positions are with regards to each individual issue. My only quandary comes when I attempt to find a candidate with which to align myself. Since my first experience with voting though the upcoming elections, I have yet to find any candidate who I can support wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, it seems that I am always forced to choose between the lesser of two evils, so to speak.
I am always open to others opinions, but that does not necessarily mean that they will change mine. I have put quite a bit of time and research into formulating what I believe in and find it hard to find any flaws with my reasoning. That is not to say that they are not there, just that I cannot see them. I am always open to intelligent political debate, but once someone chooses to resort to the use of broad generalizations, name calling, and innuendo, the intelligence factor flies out the window. When faced with these type of situations I would rather walk away and still be able to respect myself, than lower myself to such a childish display of theatrics.

I look at each candidate and have my list ready when I go to the voting booth. I vote for who ever I think best represents my views. I research their previous positions before they wanted my vote and find out what they stand for. If I like them and they start to run a smear campaign against the other man they just might and have lost my vote. I did not vote for Bush in either election but this time I see no democrat currently running that I would vote for. My senator who is a Republican voted for amnesty and I am not happy with his history of votes so I will be looking hard at the Democratic candidates.

As an Independent, I am always on the fence until all the boob-candidates are gone and the wannabes have returned to their homes in Podunk.
I don't make any decisions until the race gets serious - after the media-hungry legends-in-their-own-minds folks drop out.
That is several months away.
I do listen to the "debates" though...they are funny....
Can you believe that there are grown, educated people who don't believe in evolution??? Or who openly admit on TV before millions of people that they have a homophobic problem???
Can you believe that professional news people have the nerve to ask for a "show of hands" from these people???
C'mon....it's all "theater" right now.

I vote for the issue or the person. Look what voting party line did for America in 2000 and 2004.

I vote for the person after I weigh out their pros and cons and for what I think is best for the community and what the community really needs. I try not to get hung up or dragged to a side by off-topic issues like what I think is "morally correct" unless it has to do with war.

Good question, really it is. Since America is on the fence of either party, I have seen more and more going independent. Bloomberg would be wise to stay independent since he changed his political party. Smart man. However, if he stays a runner or even calls himself a runner in the presidential runner is to be seen. The problem, with those who are running, Americans not happy with either party. So they choose independent. We are just want someone, to step up, that has answers that make sense.

Nope because I realize there's more to politics than just the big two as the myopic media would have you believe. I vote based on the candidate I agree with. I am not loyal to any one party and I do not consider myself either liberal or conservative.

I am hoping for someone to float to the top who can stay afloat for the duration. So far, there is only one who appears to be solid, intelligent and trustworthy. But it's early.
