When you were little what did you want to be as an adult? What is your favorite city? Little town or hopping metropolis? Favorite TV show, worst TV show? What car would you love to own? If you were given 60 seconds to shop, how much do you think the total would be at the end? What music do you listen to? Do you type with two fingers or ten? What was your favorite/worst subject in school? Favorite soft drink, favorite chip, favorite cookie. Siblings? Hometown?

I did this with a coworker I was getting to know. We chatted all day long via email. I liked to call it 20 random questions, only we didn't stop at 20.
Anyway, I let him know what I was up to telling him I was going to ask him random questions, which he should anwer however he saw fit and then ask me a random question.
We covered things from what is your favorite song/movie/book and to what do you regret most in life and many things in between. It helped me to learn a lot about him (like why he always wore a suit, even on casual Friday) than I thought I would in the span of a couple of days.

Ask them what they're doing and they'll say nm and ask what's up and you have to say anyhting random like you're listening to a certain song and then maybe you can talk about music
What are you gonna do for july 4th?
Ask if they've been to the new waterpark, or seen that new movie like evan almighty
See if thery have a dog/cat and ask if they're freaked out by the fireworks for july.
ask if their lipgloss is poppin'.

you could talk about her favorite music,and why so, or his favorite band, and why does he like them,
or her favorite place where he plans to go to someday,
or her favorite author if he is that smart in reading, could also be his favorite sport, basketball player, or football player,
or where is her favorite animal , or if he has a pet.
or his dreams, his favorite movie, all those simple things then go
to the complicated ones,
like if he could do one thing to change her life what would that be, or what would he like to do for others. things like that.

my "friend" (more like bf but not really official) and i play truth, a knock off of truth or dare since you can't really do the dare part on IM but we take turns asking absolutly any thing we want.

they will start to talk about it too and you will have something to talk about almost every time you guys IM each other
