Ah, another silver surfer case. I am glad that the numbers of elderly interested are increasing =)

Usually, it is best if you can explain to them personally. Try not to ask them to read books as for them, doing hands-on is more comfortable than reading.

Remember that these elderly are not used to the common computer terms, so asking them to read book about computer will make them more stressed than helpful. Try to explain some of the terms in as much layman's term as possible. If you are not confident, check around your neighbourhood for any computer literacy course for the elderly.

Hope that helps =)

PS: If you do not know silver surfer, I did not mean that to the Marvel hero. That is a term used for elderly who are competent or learning to use computers =P

Check around for senior centers that may offer computer literacy courses. These are becoming fairly common now, especially in larger cities.

Another option is to check with area high schools or community colleges to see if any of them offer night classes in computer use.

The advantage to the senior centers is that most of these are either free or very minimally priced.

try the public library or community or senior centers.

sometimes former hackers who have to do community service are available to help - sorry I made that up. That is the kind of joke that ends up in The Onion (see link).

Maybe you can help her get started? or someone in the family. don't underestimate the grandmas!
