When did "All Americans" purchase the airwaves? Who did they belong to before radio was invented? Where are the ownership papers?

This crap is just something liberals made up as just another way to take control of private property - radio stations.

We had the fairness doctrine already, so it can't be long overdue. It mercifully went away.

Everyone has the exact same access to the airwaves. Here's the trick the people who lobby for the fairness doctrine haven't quite figured out: In order to stay on the air, people have to listen to you.

Air America had nothing but liberals on the air. It went bankrupt. That's because people, even liberals, can only listen to Al and Genine say, "I hate Bush" for so long, and that amount of time apparently isn't a 3 hour block.

That doctrine was instituted before the advent of TV and cable, it's no longer necessary except in the minds of loser liberals , Air America went down the tubes as have most other strictly liberal stations etc. The air waves do belong to All Americans not just the liberals as they would like you to believe..............

It is in place now. The Dem's are complaining because more people are listening to the radio then reading the paper which they control. So despite their best effort to sway voters to their side of the isle the Reps are winning that PR war and the Dem's are scared. So scared in fact that they are actually trying to use the Fairness Doctrine to stop the talk radio phenomenon from happening.

People aren't barred from going on the airways. It is just that most of the people on the radio seem to be conservative. And if you would take the time to listen to them, maybe you would get some more diverse opinions.

ruth- I totally agree with you except for the fact that it is all liberals doing it. I am a liberal, and am against it.

No one is stopping Americans from listening to whatever they want. The so called fairness doctrine would probably force all those left wing Lib TV and radio stations to allow conservative viewpoints to be broadcast.
Be careful what you wish for, you might actually get it.

I'm with Hardball on this one.

Why is it, at a time in this nation, when freedom of speech is paramount, the Liberals are pushing for a violation of it?

Think, people! Turn off the noise if it offends. We have to do the same.

And therefore all Americans, by virtue of market forces, determine what is on the airwaves.

Maybe, if you liberals put someone on talk radio that people wanted to listen to, your leadership would not have to impose laws mandating stations air liberal crap. Anyway, the left already has National Public Radio so stop complaining.

The so-called "fairness doctrine" merely gives people whose views aren't able to compete on their own in the arena of public opinion the right to impose their views on you.

It takes the proponents' First Amendment right to speak freely and perverts it into a "right" to make you listen to them.
