I have a 1999 new body style Jetta. It is automatic. For the past few days it has been making a strange rattling noise when it is started and when it accelerates. You cannot hear it outside of the car, only when you are in it, and it sounds like it is coming from underneath the car.

It just started happening a couple days ago, but it is continuing to get worse. One person told me it was my muffler, but i want a second opinion... does anyone have any help they could give??? PLEASE~!!!!

Could be a motor mount. This is a bracket that holds the motor in place, it is especially noticable when starting and accelerating. It's not expensive to fix

Engine missfire.

Fouled spark plug, vacuum leak, loose spark plug wire, bad injector, list goes on.
