THE LONGEST BASEBALL GAME
So what exactly was the longest baseball game in the world?

Home team: Chicago White Sox
Visitors: Milwaukee Brewers
Date: May 09 1984
Innings: 25
Length: 8 hours & 6 minutes

The game began on May 08 but according to MLB rules an inning cannot begin after 12:59 AM so the players and fans had to come back the next day.

The overall game time was 8 hours 6 minutes with Chicago finally winning 7- 6 on Harold Baines' home run in the 25th inning.
The most innings played in a MLB game occurred on May 1, 1920, between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Boston Braves. It lasted 26 innings and ended in a 1-1 tie. It was called because of darkness. The rules then did not provide for completing the game at a later time.

The longest (time) 9-inning game was played October 5, 2001, between the LA Dodgers and SF Giants. It lasted 4 hours and 27 minutes. The Dodgers won, 11 to 10.

this was during the 1981 baseball strike.

A Triple A minor league game between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles affiliate Rochester Red Wings beginning on April 18, 1981 was the longest game in professional baseball history. It was held at Pawtucket's McCoy Stadium.

After 6 scoreless innings, Rochester scored in the 7th. Pawtucket tied it in the 9th, it appeared the Red Wings would plate a run in the 11th but Wade Boggs saved the game for the Pawsox by stopping a Cal Ripken Jr. line drive destined for the corner. Each team scored once in the 21st inning. At 4:09 AM on April 19 with the teams still tied 2-2, the game was suspended in the 32nd inning.

Play resumed on June 23 when the Red Wings returned to Pawtucket. Pawtucket needed just 4 batters to win it in the June segment of the game. 8 hours and 7 minutes had been played in April and 18 additional minutes in June. The game set records that still stand for duration (8 hours, 25 minutes) and innings (33).

The 33rd inning, played during the 1981 strike, was covered by hundreds of members of the media who were eager to cover any baseball as the major leaguers were on the picket lines

Shortest Game at Home, Time. 1:30. May 20, 1972 vs. Houston

The Pawtucket-Rochester game, of course, was in the minors.

The shortest, 9-inning game in the majors by time was 51 minutes, as noted, but there have been quicker, rain-shortened games. Here's one, from 1971, @Baltimore 1 - Kansas City 0, both Palmer and Drago pitching complete games in 48 minutes.

By pitching on the road, allowing one baserunner on a homer, and losing in a minimum length official game, Drago is one of the very few pitchers -- perhaps the only one ever -- to face only 13 batters in a credited complete game.
