here is another wonderful (repellent and repulsive )story on Saudi Arabia's " Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice" http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/1874471.stm

It is beyond me why man ever allowed this type of ideology to exists in the first place..let alone flourish to a degree...and to still be practiced in this day and age is a total disgrace.....

as to your question...the Middle East is definitely not up to the standards of modern societies....of coarse, they have all the conveniences that modern societies has ..but their ideology and traditions are the same as they were in the 15 century....it truly is a sick sad situation....that will not be corrected anytime soon ....if ever......

my heart goes out to all the woman and men who have been terrorized and murdered because of this ideology and traditions (honor killings)..... I can only hope there is a fiery pit or a frozen barren land awaiting people ,who have prescribed or practiced this form of ideology ,at the end of their journey...

this crap has ,and is being done supposedly in the name of a higher power ....what a warped repulsive sadistic joke.....

NO. Many countries in the Middle East are not like that. Yes, many do have religions where women are oppresed, and many do have hatred towards the West (but notice how this is directed towards the west, and not places like Australia, New Zealand or Japan) MAny of these have been provoked by that idiot Bush and his puppet Blair. (I'm English, so I know what damage these idiots are doing to their own countries, and those of other people). These are countries where many people are poor, and corruption is rife, is it really a suprise that many people live in misery? Also, there are plenty of peace ful middle east countries (though many of those that arn't are fighting over resources such as oil - it'll be better when we're all using solar power). THey are not living in the dark ages, or there would be an even stricter higherachy of society, more wars, more 'true' (As in not radical) religion, and wooden huts with people throwing spears. Sorry, but your ideas are totally biased and incorrect. Please visit these countries, many of which are remarkable countries and wonderful places in the world to visit, as I have often dome on business trips, and holidays, and appreciate that in some areas, they see us as being rather stuck in the middle ages and in some ways, you can see where they are coming from. Yes, some countries are like your description, but there are also countries in Europe, Africa, and the Far East that are the same. Infact, the views of many americans are rather old (Such as thier hatred of gays, anyone who isn't christian, and so on) . Look at the UK - we have the crappiest NHS in Europe, 5 people a week being shot in London alone, and more drug users than anywhere else I know. Look at the problems of your own country before you start on the problems of others.

No the middle east isn't living in the middle ages. Just for the quick history lesson during Europe's middle ages the middle east was one of the most advanced areas in the world. the centre of sciences and learning. Also Islam is only 500 years younger than Christianity and as Buddhism is 500 years older than Christianity does that make them better again?

Back to the point: They arnt they are mostly just like us yes maybe some of there governments have more extreme policy's. Then the US isnt great you still use the death penalty that was abolished in all of western Europe along time ago. The middle east is changing quickly and opening up society is changing. They are very modernized in some places look the

More like the dark ages which in the Western World stretched from the end of the Roman Empire to the Middle ages

The Middle East will remain in a Dark Age until they set themselves free of a belief system that enslaves half their population and allows them to think that they can murder, annihilate, the rest of the world. What will set them back even further is the coming end of their oil reserves and or the development of alternative fuels in the West.

If Western civilization doesn't get tough on "Islamism" and either send them home or worse, all of us will suffer the consequences of what can only be called a racial and religious war against us that will drag us into the darkest of ages, blacker than the robes that they swaddle their women in. I ,for one, would rather die than be converted by a sword at my neck to any belief system. I will fight, my family will fight--join us now--call for the return of Muslims to their own countries. Withdraw their citizenship and send them, as well as those who have converted to their murderous system, back to their own lands.

Here is what they believe:

Political Correctness is the Incubator of Islamism
by Amil Imani

Time and again we are told by the politically correct “experts” not to worry about Islam posing a threat to our way of life. We are repeatedly lectured that only a very small minority of Muslims are troublemakers who are giving the peaceful masses of Muslims a bad name. We are also informed that the terrorists, who happened to be Muslims, are the disaffected and the young. And not to worry, since as the fire of youth turns to ashes of old age the rebellious will mellow, as they always have.
With heavy assurances like this, coming from so many know-it-all authoritative figures, we can sleep soundly without the aid of sleeping pills. After all, people reason that these pundits are “experts” whose job is to know and tell it like it is. Those who voice contrary views must be a bunch of racist, alarmist hate mongers. Who is right?

Wouldn’t be more prudent to let the facts settle the matter, rather than blindly accepting either position? Of course it would, except for one huge problem. In the face of threats, people tend to go to the mind’s medicine cabinet and take a few denial and rationalization pills, in the same way that it is the aspirin bottle they turn to when a headache strikes. Why not? We are the Easy Species. We love effortless, quick and simple solutions. And that’s not invariably bad. It has given us all kinds of labor and time saving devices.

Yet, the Islam problem is very real and deadly. Neither the pronouncements of the experts, nor the tranquilizing pills of the mind can make it go away. It is here and it shows every sign of imposing itself on us.

Europe is already badly infected with Islamism. It is the coal-miners’ canary. It is telling us that the next stop is America. We must act and act now. We must not sacrifice our cherished way of life and the lives of our children at the altar of political correctness: the incubator of Islamofascism.

Yes. You have to remember that the dominant force in the Middle East is Islam.
Islam was not formed until the 7th century and so they are about seven hundred years behind western civilisation and still obsessed with an obsolete religion.
This puts their development somewhere in the 1400s.

I believe that according to the Koran, there should be no progress, like there should be no education for females past the age of 8...or something similar.

They still believe that weapons are the only way to solve problems.

No. But we still are--believing that we are on some kind of religious "crusade" to wipe out all Muslims.
