here are the specs:

Genuine Windows ® Vista Home Premium Edition
Anti-glare, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8600M GT
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
80GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)

I think the graphics card has turbocache so Im wondering how much main memory it will use up and whether this will negatively affect performance since it has Vista.
Any suggestions to make the game run as smoothly as possible are appreciated.

thanks in advance

No. Simple enough right. As for the guy who said you needed a 512 MB video card, that clearly shows he knows nothing about video cards since that is the biggest novice mistake made in video cards, looking at the amount of RAM ahead of other specs. Now the 8600M GT is pretty good for a laptop graphics card, but no laptop graphics card can compare to a high end desktop card. Laptop cards have to run on a limited amount of power and produce a limited amount of heat, because they are meant for laptops. Because of this, desktop cards will always be much faster. Oblivion is one of the most demanding games out there, there are very few desktop cards that can play it at its highest settings, therefore no way this laptop card will be able to. Sorry to disappoint, but this is the truth.

Okay, so far the specs seem fine, except you might want to upgrade the video card to 512MB for high settings as this game requires a lot out of your video card. Yor RAM is enough, as 512MB is the bare minimum. Windows Vista could lower your fps due to the memory it uses, but 2GB RAM should pull it off quite well. Also, can you list the processor please? That's a vital part.
