...I don't know how to categorize this question. It is very delicate, and well, here goes.....When a full-term pregnant woman dies, is the baby taken from her body before burial? Thanks.

Well, I was watching a coroner show on A&E a few months ago and this happened. They removed the baby and there was one funeral for the both of them, and they were burried in the same plot. It's a matter of being burried with dignity, in leiu of what the first commenter said. But I would think It would be unethical not to remove the baby if it were at full term if say, it was unknown how the mother died and an autopsy had to be preformed.

I'm almost positive that the baby is taken from the mother's body, in most cases.

Unless the body is so destroyed from an un-natural death, that the baby is not intact, then they would probably leave it there.

Usually the mother and the child would be placed next to eachother, but like most people said; it depends on the family's wishes.

I'm betting the baby is taken from the mom's body, but all I know for sure is that, when my aunt died in childbirth back in the 1960s, they buried her holding the baby in her arms.

This is kind of gross, but chances are, if they don't remove the baby, it will come out eventually as the mother's body decomposes. (No, embalming generally doesn't prevent decomposition; it just buys time for a funeral.) It's called a "coffin birth."

For the purpose of this particular exercise I will presume that You have a personal interest in this subject. The simple answer to Your question is "Yes". It is done for the 'post mortem'/ 'autopsy' examination by the Coronial Inquest.

That is left up to the family. Some families have the baby removed, and they place the child in the mother's arms. Some families choose to keep the baby in the womb.

I think it would rely on the preference of the family members? Probably separate them and give them both the honor of a headstone.

You need to find a mortician or coroner forum to ask this on.
