I love traveling by Greyhound. You sometimes only hear the horror stories. I've never really had one. Here is what I told another person who was nervous about traveling by bus:

(hehe, I'm plagiarizing from myself)

Going on the bus can seem a little scary if it is your first time and you are traveling alone. I travel on the bus by choice for fun often and I can offer you a bit of advice:

1. Always keep track of your bags. Make sure you always take your purse or other valuable things with you if you step out for a snack or to stretch your legs. You can usually leave luggage or jacket to save your seat.

2. Make sure you take all your belongings off the bus if you are going to be taking multiple buses. Don't forget the ones underneath. Usually you are responsible for getting them from the luggage attendant from under the bus when you are going to transfer to another bus.

3. Make sure you mind the time. The bus driver will usually tell you how long you are going to be at a certain stop, so make sure you remember the bus number and watch the time. If they do not announce it, then ask him/her how long you will be there so that you are informed. Also, if you think you'll fall asleep, keep in mind that it might be in your best interest to load up on caffeine if you're a heavy sleeper so you don't miss your stop.

4. Take a small pillow and a sweater/jacket. Long trips can be exhausting and the air-conditioning is usually always on, so make sure you are comfortable. * The seats are not exceptionally comfortable.*

5. As soon as you get off at a station where you will be transferring, make your way to the information desk. If it is a big terminal, they will tell you the time your new bus will be leaving and the gate number where you will wait, and also if they are running on schedule. If by any chance you have missed your bus (which is not that likely, but it happens) these are the people that will make appropriate arrangements to help you.

6. Take a snack. It is allowed to eat on the bus, so take something with you, even if you plan on eating at terminals on the way. Sometimes, you are not able to grab something to eat because the bus is running late and there is no time to stop, so it's good to have something with you.

7. The bus is equipped with a bathroom generally, but try to go at stations, as there are more amenities and its usually cleaner. Make sure you take some antibacterial lotion or wipes to avoid germs.

8. Take a small amount of cash. Most things in the terminals and places they stop at don't always have ATMs or take Cards so make sure you have 20-30 bucks with you. I usually get by with 10 for a 15 hour bus ride.

9. If you are nervous, try to make small talk with other people in your line or around your seat. They can provide backup and a sense of security when traveling. Plus, you might meet some very interesting people. If you can't find a seat alone, sit next to someone who looks safe (like a mom or a grandma or a little kid- although the kid may make the trip seem longer if he's rowdy) Don't be a seat hog! :) Make room for another to sit next to you and if they don't enjoy it while it lasts.

10. And finally, take something to keep you entertained. I love to watch the scenery as we drive, but sometimes I like to read, flip through a magazine or listen to my ipod or cd-player (with headphones, of course-- and make sure you dont blast it because it will bother the other people and you don't want to get on their bad side for a long drive.)

I hope you have a fabulous trip and I hope this list helps answer your question and put you at ease :)

I took the bus once and over all it is delightful.
Transfer or changing buses is ok the ticket agents are very helpful. The overall trip is fine, the only problem I had were some of the people that traveled on the bus, some were a little shady looking.

I like it. The fairs are reasonable. At some stations, there is a restaurant and vending machines. At the bigger stations, there are TV's. Ticket agents are friendly and helpful. Passengers are nice. Have a safe trip.

I don't think that this bolt bus will work, I would rather stay with Vamoose bus or dc2ny. they have very personalized service.
