No, but police officers do this everyday and so will doctors in their job. It is real heart wrenching, but in time experience will help you be 'distanced/objective' when time comes to spill the beans.

In 2004 i had to tell my kids that there dad died. They were young so there were a lot of questions, the biggest one was "why". They cried hysterically and i was there to comfort them. There dad was young so it was very unexpected. It is never easy but somehow you get through it. They had lots and lots of questions that i was not ready to deal with and that i didnt know the answers too but, I explained the best way that I could. Nothing you say will really make it easier. Just be honest and ready for the questions and the tears and even anger.

a few years ago...i had to tell my sister that my father had died...her reaction was to cry hysterically....and all i could do was hug her while she cried....if they are that type of person...just be there for them and let them cry...you dont have to say anything until they are finished.....im the type of person that needs to walk away for a minute....if they are that type of person just give them space for a few minutes......just be there for them especially now...even if you dont say a word...just being there helps.....you could even say that you arent sure what to say and tell them how sorry you are
i am truly sorry that you have this responsibility....i know how hard it is.....good luck

People react in all different ways. I always say a prayer for that person and for their families. As you get older you lose a lot of your friends.

My mom passed away and when I told my friend all she could do was hug be and hold me. That was the hardest thing in my life to date. I had to go and tell my mom's friends and I still talk to her friends. We have things in common my mom who was a friend to everyone. We all miss her calling and talking to us about everything.

make sure u tell them face to face. make sure u tell them that u will always be there for them. let them know they have a friend, push all joking aside and tell them the situation, after let them cry on your shoulder and be totally supportive of them.
