Now a days all of them have sim cards because it provides information to the cell phone company and lets you move imformation from phone to phone. Before when cell phones were still new they had analog phones wich didnt have sim cards.

Not all cell phones have sim cards. Only cell phones with multiple network capabilities need a sim card.

well i live in new zealand ,and there is one mobile phone company that doesnt use sim cards which kinda sucks because when you get a new phone you have to change your number and not sure how to put all the contacts onto it . But i think one good thing about it is that if it gets stolen then you cant change the sim card or anything .. lol

Only Cingular (A T&T), T-Mobile and Nextel are the only cell phone companies that use GSM network. GSM network requires all cell phones to have sim cards on the back of their phones.
Verizon, and Sprint uses CDMA network. They don't require any sim cards on their phones, but each phone has a specifc ESN number that is 11 digits on the back of their phones that is registered onto their network.
