Quantitative is what can be measured and put in numeric form. Usually used to prove or disprove a theory.

Qualitative is when you are making observations and usually recording the observations in story-form. Often used for preliminary studies where the researcher has no idea of what is happening and no theory.

It's in the words themselves - quantitative analysis includes numbers and stats, whereas qualitative analysis is descriptive. For example, describing the color of a solution is qualitative, whereas recording how much you have to pipet in order for a solution to turn a faint pink is quantitative analysis.
