The season for this year is over. My cousin played on the team and I get to practice with him a lot! So should I have him put a good word in for me? I mean I REALLY want to play!

As the father of two boys and two girls, all who play ball, there is no reason that girls can't play baseball. My concern is that some people apparently feel that girls fast pitch softball is somehow a lesser game than baseball. Believe me it's not.

The interesting trouble is that girls get funneled into softball and boys into baseball. Ever here of a boy want to play softball? He'd never hear the end of it. But a girl wanting to play baseball is okay because it is more of a real sport. I just find that curious.

Anyway, if you have the skills and ambition to make this work, you'll be fine. Practice at a batting cage or with someone who can pitch a baseball. You didn't mention what skill level you are currently at, but I'm going to assume you know how to field a ball, throw and hit, but you will need to adjust a little bit from softball to baseball. My daughter switched from a coed baseball team to softball without any real trouble. The pitches are a little different. It can be fun to see a girl who can hit both softball and baseball pitches, while some of the boys can hit fastballs, but not the pitch of a softball.

Now here's where my opinion comes in, my personal observation is that boys teams tend to be more intense. Maybe it's too much testosterone or some primative instinct. The girls like to win and compete, but the basic reaction is more emotional and not as physical. Please don't get all politically correct on me as I know this is a gross generalization. But having coached boys baseball, girls softball, and coed baseball teams you can make some observations. Some girls are more physical, while some boys tend to be emotional, but for the most part the opposite is true.

On a final note, I will warn you that some coaches may not want you on their team. You might have to work harder than a boy to prove yourself. Unfortunate, but it still exists in our society. You must decide how commited and determined you are.

Some day when you play for the majors, I'd like to see you play at a game at least once in my lifetime. Anything is possible if you want it bad enough!

I forgot to mention that I am not aware of any official rules that girls play softball and boys play baseball. Little League really doesn't have a softball program, thus the coed teams. Babe Ruth supports baseball and softball, but does not require a gender to play one or the other. I knew of some girls that wanted to play baseball and were good enough. They decided to play softball to be with their friends though. It made for one TOUGH softball team. The local girls high school softball team dominates most of their games and is easily equal in skill to the boys baseball team too!

I think that you should be on the boys baseball team. the way to not get on is to pretend your a boy. They will figure out it is a girl. But who cares just because we are girls shouldn't mean we have to play softball. So here is how to get on. Talk to the coaches of some baseball teams and convince yourself on. Show them that you are girls. Forget the rules of no girls. That might not even be a rule. I hope you get ur garentede to get on. I'm a girl just to let u know!

The pitching is much different in baseball. Take hitting practice at a batting cage and get a good foundation before going out for the baseball team. See if you can get into some kind of fall baseball league just to get a look at the different variety of pitches and the different feel of the ball. Good luck. If you can hit, they will find a place for you.

why dont you want to play softball ?? i mean its GREATT that you want to try out and make a boys team .. but its the SAME THING ! except softballs are actually harder :] no joke. i play softball and i know im good enough to be on a baseball team but i dont really care becasue baseballs are too small. and in major league baseball if the ball is pitched in the dirt . they gotta get a new ball becasue the ball is too dirtyy :[ . its so stupid . just use the same ball and dont be a wuss. thats all i gotta say

REALNEIL is a JACKASS. don't listen to him. sexual orientation has nothing to do with what sports you like to play and if you want to play baseball you should play baseball. I have a friend who was on a boys baseball team- the farthest thing from gay BY THE WAY- and she had a lot of fun. she got on the team becuase she knew the coach and he knew she was a good player and wanted to give her a chance, but i'm sure you can get onto a team just by trying out and maybe talking to your local rec department, or whoever is in charge of the league.

I think that's GREAT. I grew up with a gal her name was Dena and that girl could play some Baseball better than most.I say what you have to do is work harder than all the boys and show your skills and if there's any justice if your good enough you can make the team. But let me warn you there is a lot of politics in the game and I hope you don't get caught up in it.GOOD LUCK

Regarding the negative sounding comments about your image playing baseball (well meaning or not) I have to disagree. A lot of guys like it when girls step up like that, just look at Avril Lavigne. She's kind of boyish in a way but that isn't a bad thing.

I think you'll have to make a good impression on the coach, just try not to sound pushy in a bad way. You seem to have plenty of enthusiasm and unless there are some dumb rules higher up you should be able to do it.

Edited/Revised: I don't know what I was thinking, but I cleared up my mistake (where it says "enthusiasm" it used to say "dumb rules".)

All you have to do is show a passion for the game, and then you have to show the coach that you can actually play. As far as how to get on the team ask to be able to try out. Just because your a girl, does not mean you should just be able to walk on the team. Try out like everybody else.

It would be very nice of you to spend Xmas with a friend, * NOTE* friend, it is not a good idea to date people you work with, especially if either of you are in a management position, It will cause allot of friction between the other employees working there, and usually ends up costing one or both of the people involved there jobs, there is no such thing a discrete relationships between employees, everybody will know just by the looks you give each other, the body language, the tone of voice, its up to you, its your choice, but I would not recommend it ! And who cares if your a virgin, be proud of it, if you truly are, but don't get involved with somebody just for the sake of changing that, your time will come, when it is right for you, there should be allot more people with strong moral fiber in this world, and we would have less problems.
