I majored in History in College and I have given this question a lot of thought, the answer, however, I have never exactly been able to answer. I would say, whatever era, it would be based out of America. Maybe the early 1900's, a member of a farming family from the great plains. Or perhaps I'd rather live as a nine year old in the suburbs of some metropolitan area during the 1950's, when families were nuclear, and being a blue collar worker made you worthy of heading a family and owning a home. Good question.

I'm 10 years old and an expert about the Titanic. I would go back to the time of Titanic, 1907-1912 and see my idols and see this glorious ship before she goes down. I would even warn captain Edward John Smith and all of the passengers and crew of the disaster. I would tell Harland & Wolff and Thomas Andrews and J. Bruce Ismay how to make it so she doesn't sink. I would also sail on her.
P.S. when i was 3, i went to a Titanic exibit and touched a piece of the Titanic!

United States, mid-1990s (the dot-com era?)
Why? Time of significant peace, high standards of living, modern medicine...anyone who is feeling nostalgic about any time in the past need only think about what life was like with almost perpetual war, no antibiotics, no modern amenities. An enormous number of women died in childbirth. Try making a meal with only local, native ingredients (as just about everyone did before 1492) and you'll see what I mean.

The 1940's & early 1950's - It is an area of interest for me. I am a student of World War II and the early Cold War. This was the time that the United States came of age and became a world leader. Unfortunately, the U.S. squandered it's leadership role and forgot why it became a superpower.

I'd love to travel the silk road through Central Asia in the time of Marco Polo. See the great caravan cities, maybe see the Mongol court or even Kublai Khan himself. There is so much glorious history in those places, and so little remnant of it left.

I would go to the 1940's not because of the war but of the music there was.
