I hate when people (strangers, that is) say things like:
honey
hon
pal
dude (not so bad)
mate
buddy
sport/champ (doesn't happen anymore since I'm older, but still)
It feels really condescending. Makes me feel like I'm 5 years old but I'm 22 damnit. Anyone else get that feeling?

completely agree w/ u.. i do feel its condescending when people my age or girls that are obviously younger than i am calls me hon, dear, or darling.. grrr... but i think its cute when grandma/ pa aged people do it.

yes, whenever my mom goes into a hair salon the teenagers always call her 'sweetie' or 'honey' and it does sound really condescending if it's not from someone who's a lot older than you or Southern.
