Ok, wait, you say you are 18 and have had this problem for as long as you can remember, yes?

If this is the case then all is normal. Any infection will get worse.

The odor is most likely just the way you smell. We all have a smell. If you are concerned ask your doc. The smell test is actually a normal test docs do when evaluating vaginal discharge.

Chances are, though, your discharge smells just fine. It's just not a scent you're accustomed to.

As for the consistency of your discharge: It will vary during your menstrual cycle. Track it. There will be less before and after your period and a lot more in the middle of your cycle (when you ovulate). The stringy and chunky bits are more a result of evaporation and absorption of the water by your panties than anything else. The solids get left behind.

The colour is also variable from woman to woman. The "fresh" samples will be more clear/white but evaporation and absorption will cause it to yellow.

It really doesn't sound like there is anything abnormal going on in your body but it can never hurt to see a doc. Remember, no matter how weird it seems to you your doc has always seen way weirder. Your concerns are concerns every woman has at some point and the docs are very nice about helping out.

In any event it is your body. The best thing you can do for it and you is to learn how it works and why.

Yeast infections are usually not associated with a foul odor. Sometimes, there may be a slight odor with a yeast infection. Does the discharge have a fishy odor?? Infections that have foul/strong odors are bacterial infections. A yeast infection is associated with a thick, white cottage cheese discharge, vaginal itch and redness. Yeast infections medications will not treat a bacterial infection. Exactly, how long have you had this?? Do you have an OB/GYN Doc??? You'll need to be prescribed some medication but, you'll need to be evaluated by the Doc to determine what type of infection that you have. I hope that this helps.

A yeast infection discharge can best be described as looking like "cottage cheese" and causes an intense inching at times.
So, if this sounds like your problem, then it very likely is a yeast infection. And the OTC treatments are very easy, inexpensive and quickly eliminate the problem
It is very common and nothing to be embarrassed about. It can occur from various imbalances in your body. Many times it results from taking antibiotics.
If it is NOT a yeast infection, then there is no harm in treating it as a yeast infection. But also the problem will return, at least you will have eliminated one possible cause.

The discharge from a yeast infection is white, and can resemble cottage cheese. There is no odor. What you are describing sounds nothing like a yeast infection. Using medication meant for yeast infections, when you don't have one can be harmful. It can further upset the balance of the vagina. See a doctor!!

That sounds like Bacterial Vaginitis... Not yeast infection. I was recently treated for that and my doctor prescribed a one time pill that is an anti-fungal treatment. It sure worked. Took about 2-3 days, and not an outbreak since. I am a newly wed, so not the most convient time for anything of this sort.
Check with your doctor. It is not an expensive prescription. Very worth it.

You need to go to your gyno. If you don't have one get one. It could be a yeast infection. If you have been sexually active it could be gonorrhea or chlamydia or something else. Since you have never been diagnosed you need to the doctor and have them figure it out. They'll do a pelvic and get some cultures. The over the counter stuff is for woman who have already had a yeast infection and know what one is.
