That has always bothered me. I don't do it to anyone and I am 42 years old.... I just love the thought of some 16 year old on here calling me hon like an old Aunt .

I have been to the South and I do not mind it coming from a person. I just dont want it typed to me by someone I dont know

Ugh, I hate it when anyone calls me "Hon" or "Sweetie", not just on here. I also hate it when the person I'm talking with tells me what I should do, but uses "We" instead of "You". Like nurses: "Well, now we're going to get a shot, and then we'll take a nap." Will we? Or will I? Yeah, it's all condescending.

I am from the south and I have noticed that a lot of people do it. They don't mean it in a derogatory way, I seriously think that you should pick your battles, there are worse things that you can be called.
But if you do get offended by it, I would simply ask the person not to address you as "hon" or "sweetie", how would they know that you are offended unless you tell them?

My mom hates that too...she is 42 and hates it when she goes somewhere like a nail or hair salon and the 17-yr-olds call her 'sweetie' or 'honey', she thinks it's condescending.
