I was talking to my friend yesterday concerning the movies and TV shows everyone watches online (I do it ALL the time)...She heard from lawyer friend that watching these illegally uploaded movies (even from sites such as YouTube, Dailymotion or Veoh) can incriminate the uploaders AS WELL AS the viewer...

Is this true? Has anyone else heard of this?

If you are watching a streaming video that has been posted illegally then technically you could face criminal prosecution or face a civil lawsuit. However in the case of streaming video and audio it would be extremely difficult to make the case. there are a number if technical reasons for this, but it basically comes down to the fact that more and more TV shows are being made available to view legally via streaming video. In fact some networks are even putting versions of there programs on youtube and other sites.

Don't get to comfortable though, only 10 years ago people thought it would be nearly impossible to sue someone for downloading music. If you want to be safe, go to the networks websites and watch the shows there.

True and potentially expensive for those posting the content.
