For me it is the music. It helps build the suspense and you just know that something terrible is going to happen. When it does you are still shocked despite the musical warning. The movie that had the eeriest movie music in an oldie called "The Thing." The music was created by the first use of a Moog (sp) synthesizer in a movie. Scared the **** out of me,. Watched the rest of the movie between by fingers as they covered my eyes. Watching a horror movie without the music and all you have are unpleasant looking characters, Of course, the music in the shower scene of "Psycho" has to be a classic. How many people still think about that scene when they take a shower?

The scariest is if it's a situation/plot that I can see being possible in the future; for example, governements are doing biotech and chemical research and development all the time, which makes a movie like Resident Evil, really freakin scary to me.that or anything with ghosts!

I think I'm scared more by plot and suspense. EG I was terrified after the Exorcism of Emily Rose. Many of my friends did not think it was really scary at all.

I think the thing that disturbs and perturbs me the most is how they are hyped to be so scary and ultimately disappoint in the theater. Classic example...jeepers creepers.

Token Black Person dying, Retarded white girl falling every ten minutes yet is the one to survive, Horny white guy that gets killed because he thinks using the wrong head. (I'm not trying to be racist either but it seems to always happen this way!)

The fact that most of them are so unrealistic and poorly thought out. Really disturbing.
