do the leopard geckos really need one hot side and a cold side??

yes this is nescessary for day to day heat regulation which helps in food digestion(really important) basking, leopard geckos choice in tempeture(like if hes hot he can cool off at the cold side). make sure though when you have the enclosure set up that the water and food bowls are on the cool side and the house or "hide-a-way" is on the warm side. also if you have a repto-heat mat put that on the warm side. to measure the tempeture of the tank put one thermometer on the cool and warm side and a hydrometer in the middle. good luck with the spotted little guy!:)

Yes, they must be given a choice. They also need a third hide, called a moist hide. Paper towels sprayed with water is fine. Keep it on the warm (UTH) side also. They will go in their a lot, especially when shedding, and it will help them shed easily and not get pieces stuck to their toes.

The reason you only warm up one side is so the gecko can decide how close to the heat he wants to be.

yes they do need a hot and cold side. they are cold blood
creatures and must have a place to warm up. they do not
digest their food properly if not warm.

well kinda
u need one part of
that is cooler
but relly cold
maybe about 78 of 80 degrees
and the warmer part shood be about 85 degrees!
