There should be no problem with the parent taking out a policy, either as part of a group coverage plan (at work) or individually. If they do, the person covered can not be forced to pay the premiums.

If someone wants to provide you with heath insurance for free, what is the problem? You do not have to use it if you do not want to!!

If they are still a dependent (probably either full time in college or legally mentally incapable of being an "adult").
