to say the uk is a dictatorship is stupid. especially when talking about Parliament in the same breath.
despite this it is completely apalling that the commons have voted in a sweeping ban on smoking apart from the bars at westminster.
hopefully, in an attempt to further distance himself with blair, gordon brown will create some sort of ammendment to the law. allowing for smoking licences.
wishful thinking tho.
the only solution for smokers is to become a politician.ha

Really? I had no idea that these buildings are exempt! Totally outrageous! It's been bad enough that for 30+ years, the pubs around the commons have had division bells. MP don't have to hang around listening to a boring debate, they just hear the bell and turn up if they don't already have a voting buddy (can't remember the proper term) in which case they don't bother turning up at all! What does that say about our consitutional right to representation? Smoking prohibition does not apply....so stupid that I would go bury my head in the sand, if there was any space left by MP's burying their heads..........

Are they? I thought it was reported that they were going to enforce it. If they actually adhere to it, that would be great. When you are in the position of power, would you actually impose the law onto yourselves in the privacy of your peers? Would I be naive if I said, I hope so?
Speaking about laws, from what I've been reading and hearing, I wonder if they have to worry about their taxes, housings prices, education for their children etc.
They probably don't live the everyday life as the rest of the country. To be fair, no other governing authorities with their own family do. Maybe certain things are like rewards from trying to govern the country. I don't really mind as long as they don't overdo it at the expense of the people.

Not only there but "old peoples" homes, film sets (Corrie and Eastenders) but wait for it PRISONS !( they get all the luxuries except freedom. I believe though the Isle of Mann prisons are no smoking! The MP's determined they were an exception.

UK is not unlike USA with regard to the governing body voting themselves raises in spite of the lousy job they're doing.
I don't care if those old buzzards want to smoke themselves to death. I welcome it.

Governing bodies regularly exempt themselves from all laws they pass. Those are only meant for the peons (commoners). ~
