BASICS:
Shoot
Dribble (both left & right)
Pass
Run (always be quick)
Those are a few of the basics. But if you want to join a team, especially for the school team, I suggest you tune up on these basics. Shooting the ball isn't hard, you just have to always be focused, but at the same time, don't think TOO much. If you do, you'll probably just mess up. When you dribble, make sure you dribble low, and always protect the ball with your body. (prevents opponent from stealing) If you want to be a ball handler, make sure you work on your weak hand. Cuz if you just dribble with your right hand only, your moves will be more predictable. In passing, you should always make a strong hard pass, cuz it gets to the person faster and its a lot harder to steal. Its also helpful to fake passes to confuse the defender. Running is important too. You always need to hustle, whether catching a loose ball, or just catching up to a defender. Always be on your toes, and always be in front of the person so you know where they are.Basketball is a great sport, you just need to practice, a LOT, I can't emphasize it enough. good luck

Here are some baseketball basics that I can think of right now! :) -

You can't run with the ball or that will be traveling.
You cannot dribble, then stop pick up the ball, then dribble. That would be called a double-dribble.
If you are shooting and someone hits your arm that is a foul. In that type of foul, you will be able to shoot two foul shots.
Always put your hands up on defense.
You cannot stand in the box for more than 3 seconds. You will be called for that.

Those are just some basics that I can think of! Good luck on making the team! Glad I could help! :)
