I think is is fantastic that these bans have come into place. I can now go to my local or an RSL and not have to be surrounded by ugly smoke. No more 'smoking areas' where the smoke wafts over to non smokers is great too.

When I go out now I can enjoy my time and not worry about black spots appearing on my lungs. The publicans are saying that it will create a 10% dip in profits, but it will make me go out more now. I think many others feel the same. I actually think they will do better.

My only concern is why should there be no place for me to stand in fresh air outside? Now all the balconies and courtyards will be off limits because of all the smoke. There should be outside areas for non smokers too.

Queensland is the same now, except there is usually a smoking area that is covered over, yet outside. In Ireland, the no smoking rules has been in for a few years and no one there seems to mind. It is starting or has started in the UK too. I think it is a good idea. I hated coming home from being in a pub or club and my clothes smelling badly of cigarette smoke, whether I had a cigarette or not. I do not smoke now and love not having to smell like the bottom of an ashtray anymore.

I hate them. I hate the whinging non smokers and particularly the unbearably rude ex-smokers. I go the club once a week for recreation and 99% of the people who go there smoke. I spend a considerable amount of money and collectively all smokers provide an significant amount of revenue for the government which helps pay for all you worthless centrelink recipients, hospital care and keeps the economy afloat to help keep interest rates on your (those who work) mortgages down. Bottom line ;this message is to the bunch of whinges who want to violate human rights :if you dont like being in places where there is cigarette smoke then its simple dont go there and that includes staff members.......

It is about time! Second-hand smoke is a huge health hazard and should have been considered as a liability long ago. I doubt that the pubs will lose any business; many people avoid them due to the smoke-filled environment and more should come now that they can breathe :)

It should be happening all over Australia as its so nice to be able to walk into a club or pub and not be subjected to other peoples bad habits. If they choose to ruin their health, well so be it but they shouldn't be able to ruin others health. Its also very pleasing to be able to go out to a club or pub and come home smelling just as you left, instead of coming home smelling like a ashtray with your clothes and hair stinking of smoke. Cheers to a healthier life style.

Well that's been the case in Canada for over 10 years. You can't even smoke in theme parks anymore either (outside that is).

I think it's great and about time America hopped on the bandwagon...nothing is filthier than inhaling other people's second hand smoke. How can you even breathe in those places and within minutes you smell like a filthy ashtray.

Did you know you might not even be able to be insured in future if you are a smoker? Time to give up the filthy weed.

Of course all the smokers will rebel but hey, I'm a former smoker of 20 years and it was a filthy disgusting habit and I can't believe I was ever stupid enough to smoke. I never smoked indoors with my children EVER...you have to be a total moron to do that.

Believe me, they will get used to smoking outside, and the 90 percent of people who don't smoke can breathe clean indoor air at long last.

I live in California in one of the first cities that banned smoking indoors. I'm a non-smoker and I am very thankful. It's very difficult to enjoy eating in a restaurant with your children when they are coughing and upset because of the smoke. It's also a lot more fun to go out dancing without the haze. I used to hack up a lung for a day or two after going out.

I think it's a really good idea as Passive smoking is just as big problem as if you actually smoke yourself. It will hopefully help smokers give up as the law had recognised it as dangerous

I think its about time finally that smokers can be shown the door, that it is not their right to smoke at the expense of non-smokers. What a relief to us who chose not to smoke.

What gives smokers the right to have smoke breaks at work above every elses need for a break.
