For some reason in America there is a joke about nailing polliwogs to a board. If you are a mean guy then someone might ask you if you spent your days nailing polliwogs as a child or what? I think the joke is less popular than it was say in the early 80's almost 30 years ago. Tadpole has become more popular as kids know less and less about nature from each other and more from science books and school.

We in America call them Tadpoles, but it depends on the region, in some south eastern states, I think some people call them Pollywogs...

tadpoles. I had a tadpole when I was younger. named it Tad. very original I know. it grew up to be a frog but died after it tried to eat a carpenter ant that got into it's tank.
