i bought a betta and the only time ive seen him flare is at my gourami. i ve read that you should exercise your betta a couple of times a week for 20 to 30 minutes by placing a mirror or another betta by your tank. so far my betta shows little intrest in the mirror. could he be a chicken or something? he at least follows the reflection but thats about it.

Some flare far more than others and to be honest most of the fight has been bred out of the typical betta these days. It's really nothing at all to worry about and especially since he has tank mates to interact with. That exercise you read about it good for a single betta kept away from other fish.

haha i m sure its prefectly fine! he is jus friendly or knows that he wont get the chance to fight.. he is nt a chicken cuz a chicken will try to run away from the mirror (yes i had a chicken betta be4) anyway a betta living in a community tank will learn to becum less aggressive so dnt worry.. cheeros!

Like magicman said, the bettas you find in stores aren't really the "fighting fish" a lot of people think they are. I really wouldn't be too concerned...this could be viewed as a good thing considering it sounds like you have him in a community tank and hes not very aggressive.

maybe it's smart and knows it's not another fish and it's only his reflection? or maybe he's just not in the mood to fight cause he knows that there's no female around. or maybe he's just friendly.
