Supossedly horizontal means male and random spots means female???

Nope.... I asked my son, who's an animal control officer, and he showed me pictures of 2 little female fawns - One had stripey spots and the other had random spotting. They're both grown now, and both had babies last year.

The spots are only there for camoflage, and they lose them once they're able to basically fend for themselves.

I seriously doubt this is true.

I can imagine that gender would determine spot patterns, perhaps, but spot patterns determining gender... not likely.
