Some places you can check for yarn for crochet are joanns.com, knitpicks.com,elann.com,herrschners.com. You can also just type in yarn in a search engine and you will get enough links that it will take a week just to go through them. You can always try out ebay or Ioffer.com for auctions.
It just depends on what thickness you prefer, whether it is in balls, skeins or cones. I buy a lot of yarn for knitting lace items that are usually classed as crochet thread and all were found by searching on my winzy search engine.

ck out ebay, i have seen some great types of yarn there and some are even sold in lots......but some are also very expensive and watch the shipping charges....

try smileysyarn they sell discontinued brands and styles very cheap from 1.00 a skein to 3.99 lots of fancy yarns .only drawback is you have to buy 40 dollars worth in one shipment and please make sure you order enough skiens to finish your project as i said they sell discontinued yarns
