Brazil has an incredible array of music. I followed some of the "lists" of Brazilian music at Amazon.com and learned about a lot of artists. (Much of the commentary is in Portuguese, however.) Jobim is my favorite because he was such a fantastic composer as well as a great performer. His efforts in the U.S. spurred me to become a jazz musician and "Girl from Ipanema" was the first song I liked enough to learn "by ear" (repeated listening).

But as I said, there are many fine jazz players in Brazil and throughout the world who play bossa nova. I just heard a fantastic Michael Franks album today, "Rendezvous In Rio", on a jazz brunch radio program. Franks composes many bossas for his albums! I like Milton Nacimento, the already-mentioned Astrud Gilberto and her husband Joao and their daughter Belbel. Many of Jobim's family are still performing! Luis Bonfa composed the music for "Black Orpheus" which is still high on my list today! Airto Moreita, Flora Purim and Joao Gil are some more favorites. But there are many contemporary Brazilian jazz artists who deserve recognition. Start searching Amazon for ideas. Then go to places like YouTube and GarageBand.com and search their Brazilian offerings! Enjoy.

Try Joao Gilberto and Astrud Gilberto. Here's a good start:

This is a classic:

Its very mellow and interesting. I like it anyway.

He is also on the Getz/Gilbrato album. That is a really great album.
