no ok i can scan for it and try to hook up to it but it has encryption and i could reset the router but i'd like to just go in via the web and find out the wep key. i have the password for the router but i do not know the wep key as i reformatted my HD. and so there are lots of wireless routers with the same 192.168.1.1 thing going on. so i need some help finding the router's specific address so i can try to log into it.

You need to set your SSID (its in the router settings) to something for your system.. that way you can ID your system from the others your are viewing it will show in available networks as "MySystem" rather than "Linksys" etc.

You can also set the channel to something other than the default so you wont get the interferance from the other units.
Default channels should always be changed just like the default SSID.

Sheez.
1. Reset the router to its defaults.
2. Disable your wireless connection and use a cable to access the router with the default IP/username/password.
3. Change the DHCP scope on the router to 192.168.2.xxx instead of the default 192.168.1.xxx (you can use any number between 1 and 254 in the third octet, anything that won't be confused with other routers).
4. Change the SSID, WEP security, etc. to something that is not confusing.
5. Change the broadcast channel, if necessary, to reduce interference.

Connect an ethernet cable from your cable to your router. That way you know 100% on which one you are. Once you've done this, change your wireless network name on your router and you will be able to find your router next time.
