Millions of people worldwide will never see 1/10,000th of the money NFL players see. So why are they screaming for more? Seems like greed to me.

The pension problems that the NFL is currently dealing with are predominately for the older players. Guys who played 20+ years ago before the huge salaries. Since the pensions are based on their old salaries, and since many of them are now having medical problems directly related to their years of playing football, I think the NFL does have the responsiblity to make sure these guys are taken care of.

Some of football players make way too much money, some make 10-15 million dollars a year. Some still cry about being underpaid and got getting the highest money of money. There is no limit to their greed on that view. On the other hand, some NFL players minium salary is $200,000-$500,000 now. They should get paid a little more and have starters get paid less. NFL football was never this popular and never got paid that much. When NFL first started, players got paid $100 a game. Some players are cripled and the NFL are not doing much to help these people. I think its an act of selfishness on the NFL management part.

I think the players union and the league have failed miserably to treat these guys like adults. Many of the demands the players are making (better injury benefits, disability, league minimum hikes) come from an attitude in the NFL that these guys can't plan or take care of themselves after they leave the league.

The average career in the NFL is under 4 years. Most of the guys p*ss money away like they will have a Favre-esq career...then make demands for more or complain when they have a career ending injury.

In essence, the NFL Players union has created an environment where the players feel coddled and entitled instead of responsible for their own finances like the rest of the world. Of course the players are also to blame, although there are still guys like Tom Brady who took a pay cut to have a better overall team. The crying babies who complain after they blow their cash speak louder than those fiscally prudent guys who live comfortably on short NFL careers.

Greed, maybe, childishness, definitely.

if youre talking about contract holdouts, its because they know most of the time theyll get it, so why shouldnt they ask for it? also, they can be cut for no reason, which is why when you hear a big name guy get a contract, they mention guaranteed money.

if a guy signs a 2 year $10 million contract, with only 250,000 in signing bonus, then gets injured and cut cause he cant play any longer, he doesnt have 10 mill bucks, only 250k to cover his family, medical expenses, and im sure he has a decent sized house and other personal items to pay for, not to mention his kids college....so would you blame him for wanting to hold out for a 4 year $22 million contract with $3 million guaranteed?

Now take that example and replace those "average numbers" with the kind you hear about in the media (like asante samuel getting a 1 year deal from new england and threatening to hold out for job security) and you will begin to understand why they do it....not to mention that the owners are making exponentially more for what these players are doing on the field

sorry for such a long winded answer

Most of the retired players did not make millions some did and now are old and need better heathcare. The people asking for more money were the ones who did not make the most money and were not famous. Guys who are HOFers and made lots of money such as Mike Ditka are standing up for these players so the player's association gives these old players the money they deserve.

No matter who you are or what you do a raise is always a good thing. I wish I could throw, jump, or catch a ball for a living. If I could I would get an agent that would give me every possible dollar that I could secure for myself and my family. For every hall of famer who retires with millions there are kids that blow their knees out and are done at 24. It is not greed... imagine this, if the owners are willing to pay it, then how much are they making off of the player?
