Why when people asks you "what three things would you bring with you on a desert island?" no one ever replies, "A BOAT"

Because every time you bring up the obvious possible solution you're told NOT A BOAT. I've tried but I guess there are stipulations to the question.

Because, silly, it's understood that the boat sank.

Hence the need to bring stuff with you *from* the sinking boat..
